You first of all should know some of the roulette equipment used when playing the game. You need to know this so that if you are playing and someone is talking to you about something you should at the very least know what he or she is talking about.

• First of all the Ball is of course the little ball that is tossed into the wheel while it is spinning that will land on one of the numbers;
• The Drop box is where money is dropped after the player cashes money into the game and gets his chips from the dealer, this is usually located under the table. So if you give the dealer a $100 bill they will say “cashing a hundred” and push the money into the drop box;
• When someone is talking about the ‘Layout’, they mean the layout of the table itself. Where all of the numbers are located and the other boxes that are on the table;
• Next is the Marker this is very important for you to know. The marker is a check that is filled out by the player if he wants to get casino credit at the table. This is basically a casino IOU, a promissory note that must be paid back to the casino when you are done playing;
• The ‘Pockets’ and the ‘Slots’ are the same thing. They are the little spaces on the Roulette wheel underneath each number where the ball can land to pick a winning number;
• You may hear a casino official refer to the ‘Stator’ this is the outside part of the wheel that stays stationary during the whole game. It is the base of the wheel that keeps it and is 32 inches in diameter and usually made up of some kind of polished wood;
• The ‘Scoop’ is another accessory that you might see used at the Roulette table, this is what the dealer will use to sweep the table of all of the losing bets.
• Finally you have the ‘Dealer Marker’ this is what the dealer places on the winning box so that there is no confusion as to what number the ball landed on. The marker stays in place until all winning bets have been paid out and a new game begins.
